Gwin Note: This William Smith is the son-in-law of thedeceased.] of DallasCo., AL, sold for $1000 loan and $920 to John A. Lodor the landin the town of Athens, Dallas Co., AL, "beginning at the corner of Mainand Cahaba Streets running South along Main Street seven chain and thirtyeight links thence eastwardly three chains and thirty eight links, thencenorthwardly parallel with Main Street seven chains and thirty eight linksto Cahaba Street thence westwardly along Cahaba Street three chains andthirty eight links to the point of beginning, reserving an alley at thepoint designated in the plat of said Town east and west across said Lots. Also an interest of one half in Lot number two and three in said town havinga front on Main Street of one hundred and forty seven and a half feet andrunning back east one hundred and forty seven and a half feet and alsolots numbered six, seven, and eight immediately east of said lots altogethercontaining one and a fourth acres of Block number One and also one halfinterest with the following lots in said town Viz: the lot known as thesecond half acre of block no. eight and the north half of the third halfacre of block No. three containing three quarters of an acre."

ABSTRACT:
On 17 Jun 1826,Jacob Hoot,John Gwinn, and Rigdon Norris, agree to pay the State of Alabama$1000 if Jacob Hoot fails to perform the legal duties of constable in Capt.Rainer's beat on Bogue Chitto.

TRANSCRIPTION:
State of Alabama, Dallas County } Know all men by these presentsthat We, Jacob Hoot, John Gwinn, [JohnM. Gwin Note: This is John Gwin,one of my eight ggg-grandfathers.] and Rigdon Norrisare held and firmly bound unto John Murphy, Govr of the Stateof Alabama and his successors in office in the sum of one thousand dollars. The payment of which well and truly to be made and done we bind ourselvesand each of us our and each of our heirs executors administrators and assignsjointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals anddated this 17th day June 1826.  The condition of the above obligationis such that whereas the above bound Jacob Hoot has been duly electedconstable in Capt. Rainer's beat on Bogue Chitto.  Now if thesaid Jacob Hoot shall well and truly perform all the duties which may berequired by law, then the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remainin full force and effect.

ABSTRACT:
On 13 May 1832, WilliamGwin[JohnM. Gwin Note: This must either be WilliamGwin, one of my gg-grandfathers and (in 1832) 9-year-old son ofJohn Gwin, or one of my ggg-granduncles and brother of John Gwin. If it is the former, then John must have been training his son Williamearly in the art of dealing in real estate, or perhaps he put this landin William's name to get a tax break, if there was such a thing. At any rate, these are the only reasons I can think of that it might bethis William.  If it is NOT this younger William, then it MUST meanthat John had a brother William, probably the one for whom the youngerwas named.] of DallasCo., AL, sold for $1.00 to Charles L. Matthews the W 1/2 of theSW 1/4 of Sect. 8 in Township 15, Range 10, (ca. 80 acres) ca. 1/4 mi.W. of Sardis, Alabama.

Gwin Note:  This is IsomGwin, the eldest son of my ggg-grandparents, John and Jane Gwin]for$15.80 in order to pay the tax on that land for 1848. (This 40-acre tracttoday lies fronting on Co. Rd. 188 about halfway between roads 29 and 45and southeast of but not touching Hurricane Creek.)

TRANSCRIPTION:
A deed from John Gwin to E. B. Wilson was on the 16th day of OctoberAD 1849 filed in this office for record in the words and figures followingto wit: The State of Alabama, Dallas County, This indenture made this the16thday of October AD (1849) Eighteen hundred and forty nine between JohnGwin and Jane Gwin wife of the said John Gwin of the countyof Dallas and State of Alalbama of the first part and EzekielB.
