Return to Genealogy Home Page              Return to Nathaniel Wilson Homepage

The updating of the numbering system used on this page has been completed. Generation 28 is my own;
27 is that of my parents; 29 is that of my children, etc.  --   John M. Gwin, May 2009

Family and other researchers, please note the following changes: on 15 Nov 2008, I changed the numbering of the outline, below, to correspond to the other pages in this site. I apologize for any confusion that may have resulted.  Further, there's some new data here from Cousin Ruby Mae Pool I think you'll find interesting and some goodies on E. M. Wilson's land in Arkansas. And in Dec 2009 and now in 2013, I've found and posted quite a bit of additional census and burial (Findagrave.com) data on Ezekiel's descendants.
--John Gwin

   SOURCES:
1.  I started this page on the family of Ezekiel Monroe Wilson with info provided Mar 2000 by my 4th cousin, Patty Taylor (28.04 below).

2.  Additional sources are the various census records and other documentation from Ancestry.com, FindaGrave.com, and Facebook.com.

3.  In July 2003 I got to meet Patty and her husband Terry, her mother Ruby, and her nephew Ricky at the Taylor home in Walls, MS.  Later Patty mailed me much of her material.  Information from that mailing is printed below in this dark green.

4.  In August 2003 I visited by telephone with Patty's 3rd and my 4th cousin Dennis Wilson of NC.  His father, Rupert Wilson, Jr., lives with him and is a source of much of his information.  Data I've received from him is printed below in this dark purple.

5.  In October 2003, Cousin Jo Goodwin sent me pictures of the Buddy Wilson home in Beebe.

6.  In July 2016 Fourth cousin once removed Rick Marshall (Patty's nephew from source paragraph 3 above) reestablished contact with some corrections.

7.  In October 2018 Cousin Hazel Dillehay, who descends through 25.03 Fannie Wilson Wright, confirmed her lineage through Ancestry DNA and offered much data there from her tree, most of which is copied below in this pinkish color.

24.05--Ezekiel Monroe Wilson, b. 23 Feb 1825; d. after Aug 26 1870; bd. in Beebe Cem. in a grave marked with only blank stones (this from Dennis' dad, Rupert Jr.); listed in both the 1860 and 1870 censuses as both a blacksmith and a landowner with real holdings in 1860 of $500 and personal property of $3800 but in 1870 with real property of $1600 and personal assets of $350; m1. 11 Nov 1847 in Dallas Co., AL [Dallas Co. Marr. Records, Bk A, p. 41; marriage license, dated 11 Nov 1847 secured from Isom Gwin, JP] to Sarah Jane Cole (b. ca. 1830--listed as age 30 in 6 July 1860 Census; d. after 26 Aug 1870; bd. unk., but not listed in the book Vital Data from Cemeteries in Dallas Co., AL, CAGS, 1989); at least nine children by Sarah Jane; m2.  31 Oct 1878 in Lonoke/Pulaski Co., AR to R. Catharine Williams (from Jo's note, below, and 1900 census, which listed her only as Catharine; b. Apr 1831 in KY/KY/KY; d. aft. 1900 census; bd. unk.); unk. ch. by Catharine of at least nine total;
[listed as E. W. Wilson, blacksmith, age 24, b. AL in the 9 Oct 1850 census of Burnsville Beat, Dallas Co., AL, and lvg. w/his wife, S. J., 20; dau. M. J., 2; and (prob. his b-i-l) J. W. Cole, 30, a clerk]
[listed as E. M. Wilson, blacksmith, age 34, in 9 July 1860 Census of Pence's Beat, Dallas Co., AL, so year of birth may be 1826]
;
[listed as E. M. Wilson, age 46, blacksmith, in the 26 Aug 1870 census
of Pence's Beat, Dallas Co., AL]

[listed as S. J. Wilson, age 20, b. AL in the 9 Oct 1850 census of Burnsville Beat, Dallas Co., AL, and lvg. w/her husb, E.W., 24; dau. M. J., 2; and (prob. her bro.) J. W. Cole, 30, a clerk]
[listed as S. J. Wilson, age 40,  in the 26 Aug 1870 census
of Pence's Beat, Dallas Co., AL]

[listed as Catharine Wilson, age 69, stepmother, b. Apr 1831 in KY/KY/KY, and lvg. w/her stepson, Wm. N. Wilson, 46, in the 4 Jun
1900 census of Austin Station Town, Caroline Twp., Lonoke Co., AR]

[Jo Goodwin Note: According to father's will, Ezekiel Monroe Wilson was in Arkansas by 1874, Pulaski, White Co. Have not found in 1880 census as of 18 Oct 2003. However, I did find record of a marriage for E. M. Wilson, 52, to R. C. Williams, 45, on 31 Oct 1878 in Lonoke/Pulaski Co, AR, marriage records.  This could be is Ezekiel Monroe Wilson's 2nd marriage.]

[John M. Gwin Note:  Great find, Jo! I have scratched out the "could be" in your note above and replaced it with "is", since we've found her in the 1900 census listed as stepmom and living with Zeke's and Sarah's son, Bill.]

[John M. Gwin Note:  The above photo was found in the old Wilson/Gwin photo album inherited by cousin Barbara Ward.  It was indexed there by the album's original owner as Mary J. Wilson and Jane Wilson.  I had assumed that Jane was Ezekiel Monroe Wilson's mother Jane, but I could not figure out who MJ would then be.  Further, the lady seated did not seem to resemble "Grandma Jane".  I now believe the photo to be Sarah Jane Cole Wilson, seated, and her eldest daughter, Mary J. Wilson.]

[John M. Gwin Note, Nov 2008:  We have found evidence that Ezekiel may have purchased land in Arkansas as early as 1856. (see below)]

[John M. Gwin Note, Feb 2017:  I believe this must be a second marriage for our Ezekiel Monroe Wilson.]

Janet Denise Van Pelt of Conway, Arkansas passed away November 17, 2022.  She was born June 3, 1958 to Henry Leslie and Peggy Van Pelt.
Janet wore many hats during her day, but it wasn’t until a misdiagnosis that unfortunately led her out of early retirement from South Western Bell that we all learned just what this woman was truly capable of!  Janet jumped feet first back into the job market taking whatever came her way!
More times than not she worked two jobs to make sure her girls continued dance lessons, softball, and volleyball, all while never missing a game or performance.  She was the definition of a mama bear who loved her cubs more than life itself!  I loved to listen to her sing while cooking or putting on a show for us while in the car to one of many tournaments.  You are truly missed and will be forever cherished.
Janet was preceeded in death by her daddy Henry Leslie Van Pelt Jr, mother Peggy Van Pelt, sister-in-law Kay Van Pelt and brother Michael Van Pelt.
Janet is survived by her two daughters Lesli (Colt) Powell and Kylie Bowden, her grandchildren Dylan, Riley, Shiloh, Khloe, Presli and Kenzie Powell all of Mayflower, Arkansas. brother Gary (Elwanda) Van Pelt of Sherwood Arkansas, and sister Carol (Bobby) Taylor of Scott Arkansas. along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial will held later this year to honor this amazing woman I was fortunate enough to call my mama.
Cremation arrangements are by A Natural State Funeral Service & Crematory, 2620 West Main Street, Jacksonville, Arkansas, 72076. 501-982-3400. Janet’s online guestbook is available at www.anaturalstatefuneralservice.com

OBITUARY

Funeral service for Kerrie Waynell Goodnight, age 51, of Lahoma, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at Zion Lutheran Church, Lahoma, with Pastor Eric Brown officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

After a long battle with health problems, Kerrie Waynell Jenkins Listak Goodnight passed away Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, in Enid at Northwest Special-ity Hospital.

Kerrie was born April 25, 1958, in San Francisco, Calif., to parents Raymond Jenkins and Anna Waynette Lindsey.

Later in life, Kerrie’s mother remarried Jerry Listak, and she and the entire family moved to Lahoma where she grew up.  Kerrie attended school at Lahoma Public Schools and got her high school diploma later in life.  She also received her nurse aide and med aide certification at Autry Technology Vocational School in Enid, Okla.  Later she received her pharmacy tech certification.

On June 24, 1974 at the age of 16, Kerrie married Larry Helgeson, and to this union were born two daughters, Kerrie Christal and Jessica Leanne.

Then Kerrie moved to Texas and met the lover of her life, Charles Edward Goodnight. They were married in Mesquite, Texas, on June 5, 1978. This marriage was blessed with one son, Kenneth Ray. Charlie and Kerrie lived in Houston and Rockwell, Texas. Then they moved back to Lahoma, where Kerrie spent the remainder of her years.

Over the years, Kerrie worked as a certified med aide and nurse aide. Kerrie’s last job was as a pharmacy tech at WalMart Pharmacy.

Kerrie loved to fish, cook, sew, read a good book and watch scary movies. She also loved to be with her dog Callie and her family and friends.

Her laughter, smile and witty sense of humor will be so missed. She was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, grandma, and friend, who added to each life she touched.

She is survived by her children, Kerrie Burgess and her husband Mark of Enid and Kenneth Good-night and wife Jennifer of Lahoma. She also is survived by her mother and stepfather, Anna Waynette and Jerry Listak of Lahoma; her sisters, Christal Skulborstad and husband Mark of New Caney, Texas, Terry Turner and husband Rob of Minot, N.D., Tamara Shroyer of Enid, Renee Coaley and husband Jay of Lahoma and Jordell Vodry of Yukon; one brother, Jerry Listak and wife Kelly of Clinton; seven grandchildren, Britney and Bradley Goodnight, Brandon and Kateland Seal, Preston and Jennie Burgess and Christ-opher Schaffler. Kerrie has many nieces, nephews and friends who will greatly miss her.

Kerrie was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Jessica; three nephews; her sister, Ginger Wilson; and her husband, Charlie Goodnight.

Heaven’s latest angel has won her wings today.

Memorials may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Kerrie’s name with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.

OBITUARY
Steven Philip Spring
  I am a Veteran.   November 24, 1980 - August 20, 2017

Steven Philip Spring, 36, of Dallas, Texas passed away on August 20, 2017. He was born November 24, 1980 to Philip and Myra Spring in North Little Rock, Arkansas.  Steven was preceded in death by his father, Philip Spring, and both sets of grandparents: Stephen and Margaret Spring and Wilson and Rebel Crow.
        Steven was a young man
who enjoyed life and everything it had to offer.  He enjoyed hunting with his dad, fishing with his grandfather, and watching sports with his friends.  Steven joined the Army Reserves in 1997, served his country for 10 years, and eventually became a courier for a lawyer friend of his. He was never one to stay still and always had to be doing something, always on the move. No wonder he made so many friends over the years.
Steven is survived by his mother, Myra Spring (David Boyce) of North Little Rock; two brothers: Derek Boyce of Little Rock and Jake (Ashley) Boyce of Bryant; nephew, Mason Boyce; three uncles: Stephen Spring of Alaska and Phillip (Nancy) and Robinson (Vickie) Crow, both of North Little Rock; his aunt Nancy Stanley of North Little Rock; and cousins Amy Stanley, Becky Crow, Lisa Crow, and Emily Crow.

This listing for Mable Wilson Lamb is taken from the obituary posted on her good FindAGrave.com memorial as follows:

OBITUARY
Mable Wilson Lamb, 84, of Jacksonville passed from this earth on 8 May 2009 of complications due to liver failure.  She was born in Vilonia, AR on September 2, 1924.  She was preceded in death by parents William Arthur and Lillian A. Wilson; husband of 60 years, Virgil; brothers Ottis, Charley, and Ralph Wilson and sister Rebel (Wilson) Crow.  She is survived by brother, Major Wilson of Memphis, TN and sister Margie Williams of Jacksonville.
Mable raised four children and welcomed their spouses into the family with open arms: Paul (Cathy) Lamb, Smyrna, TN; William (Nancy) Lamb, Maumelle, AR; Susan Lamb Bell, Memphis, TN; and James (Joyce) Lamb, Jacksonville, AR.  She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. However, while she raised her children well, there are many others who know her as "Mama Mable."
Her extended family reached to practically every corner of the world as people who were stationed at Little Rock Air Force base would find new friends at their new bases who also knew Mable.  In fact, she was reunited with a dear friend, Joyce Vega, who overheard someone talking about "Mama Mable from Jacksonville" in the line at the commissary at Eglin AFB, FL.
Mable made a positive impact on everyone she met.  There are literally thousands of crocheted or knitted items that were given to friends and family and in many cases people she never even met.  Everything she ever made was made with love, and it showed.  She read her Bible daily, was well known as an expert in the Scriptures, and was always a great asset to any Bible class.
She left an indelible mark on this earth by being one of the kindest, gentlest souls anyone has ever met.  She was a long-time member of the Bailey Street Church of Christ, the North Jacksonville Church of Christ, and for a short time attended the South Jacksonville Church of Christ.  We will all miss her and the solid ground she provided for family and friends.  Mable may be gone from us, but her memory will live on for many years to come in our hearts and minds.

Living next door in the home of N. J. Lilly, 35, and Caroline Lilly, 24, is Mary Ann Rasco. We know that E.  M.'s aunt, Sarah H. Rasco, married Ezekiel Burdine Wilson, so this is likely E. M.'s cousin. N. J. Lilly is also a blacksmith, and at age 35 may be E. M.'s mentor under whom E. M. apprenticed. But why did E. M. choose N. J. Lilly? Perhaps Caroline and Mary Jane are sisters, and the apprenticing of E. M. would then have been a natural thing.
