Just recently I found out that my grandfather's last name was actually Edens. He dropped the S when he married my grandmother. Mahala is my 3x great aunt. Her parents were Jesse Jeremiah Edens (1778-1860) and Dorothy W. Davis (1782-1860) I would love to find out more about how we are related. Was Roane still a part of Kanawha in 1850, or did he live in Kanawha then move to Roane (or vice-versa)? Clearly some, if not all, of the Edens families surrounding him are his children. Ancestry.com has grouped 271 pages of Kanawha Co. census records together in one database. This perhaps includes the entire county--I don't know yet. But I searched the pages surround Jess' and Dot's (p. 233) from 220 to 250 and included here my transcriptions of all the Edens I found.

Comments: My great-grandpa John Edens and his first wife Marie Long had my grandma Marie Edens who married a Brandenburg. Marie Long was supposed to have quite a bit of Native American blood. She died from the bird flu or plague around 1917, give or take a year. She died when my grandma Brandenburg was very young but had two other siblings born to John and Marie.

John Edens died in Yakima,WA, after having lived in Cleelum, WA. He was remarried to a Blanche Yuri who told me that she was related to the Hatfields of the Hatfield and McCoy wars.

John Edens was in the military and served in El Paso, TX.

I am interested in how much Indian Marie Long had in her. The Longs are somehow to have distantly related me to Tennessee Ernie Ford.
