The reformatting of the name
font and census data for this page has NOT been completed. --John M. Gwin, Aug 2011
Our objective is
to tie together as many of these GWIN lines (all
variations of spellings) as possible. It
seems that a good way to do is is to create as
many pages as we can, place them online, and see
who can spot something that the rest of us have
missed so far.
For example, here's a page that we just connected to this one in June 2012: http://www.gwingenealogy.net/GENEALOGY/SURNAMES/Gwin/gwinlittleton.htm#gwinMaltimoreDovieSandlin |
Some time back I bumped into Cousin Robert Gwin. I couldn't see any way we were related, though, until he got to the farthest end of his family and mentioned the name Maltimore Gwin. I'd seen that name twice, both times in 19th-century middle-Alabama censuses. I remembered that I had been intrigued by the number of given names in their families that aligned themselves with those in my line. Then I'd lost my notes on the Maltimore Gwin families and hadn't been able to find the families again in any of my census searches. But now Bob has mailed me this information, and while neither he nor I have any real evidence--much less proof--that we're related yet, nevertheless, posting his info here with mine is a good way for you readers to see these pages side-by-side and perhaps notice a connection based on information you have that we don't.
Please contact either or both of us if you have something that may tie these lines together. Contact him by clicking his link in this paragraph.
In addition, if your "unrelated" GWIN line is not here and you, like Robert, would like me to build a similar page for your known family (or create a link to a page you've already prepared), please let me know. The cost to you is nothing, and I publish only what information you send and tell me to publish. My intent here is simply to provide another avenue to help us all find the missing connections for which we've all been looking for so long!
Thanks so much for visiting! And THANK YOU, Bob, for sending all these goodies! :-)
Please note that
the
abbreviation
"unk." (unknown) on this page means
that it is unknown to me, John Gwin,
whether or not it is unknown to Robert and/or others.

One of the things that leads me to believe these families are related to me is the name of the father of Maltimore 2 above: CHESLEY. Sarah Chesley, who married Richard Gwin in Jamestown, VA, is the matriarch of my line, and many of her descendents have Chesley as a given name. Though this Chesley Gwin's parents were both from SC, that does not mean that he is not related, as Richard and Sarah are said to have lived in SC for a while, and at least one of their children likely had Chesley for a given name as could any of his descendents as well. Indeed, the name also appears in Littleton Gwin's line: 3.2--James Chesley Byrd Gwin,
