Horatio Jones Gwin and Lucinda Newcomb |
SOURCES:
(1) In October 2003, Carol Callison, another "potential" cousin, sent in several different e.mails of information on descendants of Horatio and Lucinda, as well as a photo and some family data on a somewhat mysterious Theodore Gwin and his wife Elizabeth. I've not seen where we are related yet, so I have created this page as a clearinghouse on anything related to these couples. Hopefully, having her information available to others viewing my own will allow someone to make a connection. Please feel free to e.mail Carol and/or me, John Gwin, with any questions or anything you may have related to the people mentioned in this site.

Horatio Jones Gwin
I am still
looking
for information on my gg-grandfather, Horatio
Jones Gwin. I
think Horatio's parents were John
and Catherine, but no proof.
Horatio was born
about 1809 in PA. He died 1881 near Handford,
CA. He married Lucinda
Newcomb in Knox County, OH in 1838.
She died in Nobelville, Hamilton Co., IN,
in Aug. 1850.
They had four children: Mary b. 1839, Gaven b. 1841, Thomas b. 1843, and Austin b. 1846 (my g-grandfather). All the children were born in Ohio except Austin who was born in Michigan. After Lucinda's death Austin was raised by his uncle Leonard Newcomb, Thomas went with Horatio to CA. Austin married Florence Tripp, had eight children and died in Oklahoma 1914. Thomas stayed in CA and died after 1930. I have no idea what happened to Mary or Gaven. Re: Horatio Jones Gwin
I
have records of
Austin B. Gwinn, married to Florence
Clupp( but could be Trapp?) They
had nine children: Rush; twins Hattie
and Harry; Aggie; John;
Lou; and
Charles Edgar Arthur (my
g-grandfather); he was married to Myrtle
Edgar.
Myrtle was born 12-31-1888. Could we be in
the same tree?
Re: Horatio Jones Gwin
What I have for their children is: Mary Lucinda (Lou), Agnes M. (Aggie?), Emily, William Harrison (Harry), his twin Harriet E. (Hattie or Hat), Horatio (Rush), John Robert (my grandfather) and Charles E. A. Gwin. I have a photo of Charles' headstone; he is buried at Terlton Cemetery at Terlton, Pawnee Co., OK. I do have him married to Myrtle, but I could never find her maiden name. The last thing I found for Myrtle is the 1920 Housecreek, Pawnee Co., OK, census. She is listed as Myrtle Swain with the correction of Gwin. She is listed as a widow, born about 1889 in Missouri. She has two daughters: Marie, born abt 1908, and Anna, born abt 1910. I also have the WWI draft registration for Charles Ed. Gwin. Re: Horatio Jones Gwin
Yes!...Marie
was
my grandmother! Myrtle was my
great-grandma Hickey.
She remarried at some point and was a
widow... All of those names are
in the family Bible. My mom did all of
the research on the family tree,
because I had a brother who was a
hemophiliac (genetically passed from
mother to son) and she was trying to find
out where it came from. I
have a really cool book that she had and
filled out; it includes lots
of pictures; she had tin types. My
email is njdiag@aol.com.
Charles Edgar Gwin
was my great-grandfather.
