MARIETTA - J. W. Greene, Sr., 72, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at the North Miss. Medical Center in Tupelo after an extended illness. He was a member of the Marietta Lions Club and the Marietta Church of Christ where he had been an adult Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He attended grade school at Marietta Attendance Center, attended Northeast Miss. Junior College from 1955-1957 and graduated with a B.S. in Social Science from Mississippi State University in 1959. He received his Master's in Administration from MSU in 1972 and completed his requirements for certification in elementary education from the University of Mississippi in 1973. He was employed from 1965-1983 by the Itawamba County School District, three years as basketball coach/teacher and 15 years as an administrator. He served as Prentiss County Superintendent of Education from 1983 to 1987.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mike Jones, Bro. Ronnie Livingston and Bro. Calvin Barber officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Rest Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Evonell Sparks Greene; two daughters, Terri Gilson and husband, Leon, of Little Rock, Ark., and Sharla Burns of Booneville; three sons, Ricky Greene and wife, Barbara, Jake Greene and wife, Lynn, and Malcolm Greene and wife, Jeannie, all of Marietta; seven sisters, Rachel Rossi of St. Louis, Mo., Lou Della Thomas, Joyce Barber and Pat Chaple, all of Marietta, Louise Panis of Tupelo, Nancy Smith of Guntown and Patricia Hancock of Baldwyn; three brothers, Huey Greene, Lynn Greene and Williams Greene all of Marietta; 10 grandchildren, Cory Burns, Kara Burns, Aron Greene and wife, Trish, Jonathan Green, Brittany Greene, Jason Dorsett, Brandon Dorsett and wife, Amber, J.D. OBITUARY
Huey Roland Greene, age 75, died September 10, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. He was born February 14, 1936, to Herman and Vivian Williams Greene in Prentiss County. He was a farmer in his earlier years, and after attending The Regional Rehab and Training Center in Tupelo he was employed by Rockwell International. He was baptized into Christ in August of 1958 by Bro. Jimmy Allen. He was a faithful member of the Zion Rest Church of Christ. He was an honorary member of the Marietta Lions Club.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Tony Brown, Calvin Barber, and Ricky Greene officiating. Burial will be in Zion Rest Cemetery.

He is survived by seven sisters, Rachel Rossi of St. Louis, MO, Pat Chapple (Leon), Lou (Clarence) Thomas, both of Marietta, Joyce (Calvin) Barber of Booneville, Louise (Ed) Panis of Belden, Patricia (Hal) Hancock of Tupelo, and Nancy (Ray) Smith of Guntown; two brothers, Lynn (Sarah) Greene of Marietta and William Greene of Dennis; one sister-in-law, Evonell Greene of Marietta;
25 nieces and nephews; and a host of great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Lamar, Jimmy Lane, and J.W. Greene; a sister, Nellie Simmons; a sister-in-law, Doretha Gentry Greene; and two nephews, Doug Berryhill and Bart Simmons.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Greene, Jake Greene, Malcolm Greene, Mark Thomas, Jim Barber, Jeff Michael, Hugh Greene, Greg Hancock and Jim Hancock.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Michael, Frank Rossi, Fred Rossi, Bob Rossi and Rod Simmons.

Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday and from 11:00 A.M. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

My late husband has a Gwynne ancestor, and I wonder if you have run across anything on this line.

This information is from the 1850 Franklin Co., AL, Census, Dist. No.6, res. no. 606.

Also on that census, same dist., res. no. 590-----Isom Gwynne, b. abt.1784 in VA, and Nancy, b. abt. 1779 in VA.

I found a marriage for Isom Guinn and Nancy Luttrell on my marriage CD for 7 Oct 1807 in Garrard Co., KY.

Now, back to Mary and Isom. He was not found on the 1850 or 1860 Franklin Co. Census.

The daughter, Nancy Emiline, married our ancestor, Ambrose H. Green in 1867 in Franklin Co., AL.

She said on her 1900 Prentiss Co. Census that both her parents were born in AL.

I have assumed the older Isom to be the father of the younger of the 1850 census. Nancy's funeral home record says her father was Isom Gwynne.
