I'm tickled to death to be able to help you get started. I enjoy this so much...

First of all, I have written your husband's data in my format, below, and I notice right away that Emmitt must've been born earlier than 1916, or else he'd only be five years old or so When Thomas was born in 1921.

Nevertheless, the place I generally begin is with the census information. Most of us know that the census is taken every ten years (we all answered the most recent one this year!), but some don't know that it is then locked up from the public for 70 years (for privacy's sake). So this year the 1940 census is being unlocked, but it's not readily available yet. So the most recent census we can see is the 1930 one, and Emmitt and Thomas both seem to have been born before 1930.

Therefore, I'm going to look in the 1930 census for them. I'll let you know what I find out.

While it is not yet confirmed that the families listed here are related to our Richard Lamar Gwin,

this is, nevertheless, most promising indeed, for at least three reasons:

First, we have found in the 1900 census an Emmitt Gwin we had not found before because his DOB had been entered as occurring much later;

Second, this Emmitt's father's name is Perry T., and our Emmitt's son's name is Thomas Perry;

And third, someone added an identifier to the 1870 census shown here, saying that she believes the Perry Guinn listed is actually Thomas Perry Gwin!
