[Sharon Rae Gwin Day-Marts Note: The data on the handwritten notes of Orley Bush Gwin, my g-grandfather, for Caroline Gwin's middle name might have been Chamberlain -- I can read the hamberlain quite clearly, but the first letter is hard to read, could easily be a C.  John Gwin Addendum:  And since the 1870 census reports her middle initial as "C.", I'd say that pretty much seals it up!]

A--The large marker of the Dunn family plot at Paola City Cem., Paola, KS (behind it and to its right is the stone of Henry and Gladys Saunier with no dates, and to its left is the shadow of the Joyce stone, last picture following); Gladys Saunier is the daughter of John and CeeCee Dunn, and Henry, her widower, returned to Stark Co., OH, after she died;
B--this small marker is set beside and to the left of the Dunn marker and reads "Father, J. H. Dunn, 1835-1923";
C--next is the small marker of Caroline Gwin Dunn which simply states "Mother" (however, I saw the  name  "C. C. Dunn" in the office copy of the cemetery directory that led  me to this plot, and I'm sure this is her grave);
D--finally is the stone for  Alvin W. Joyce (9 Feb 1873 -  1 May 1933)  and his wife Maude (8 Dec 1871 - 17 Jan 1957), the latter of whom I'm now convinced is the youngest daughter of John and Caroline.

BINGO! On a hunch that Caroline, last seen at age 16 living at home, would be married and living near her parents, I did an Ancestry.com search of the 1870 census of Stanton/Miami/Kansas for any female by the first name of Caroline. There were only three, and this one is
(1) ten years older than our Caroline was in 1860,
(2) b. in Iowa, and
(3) living only 3 doors from her parents and 2 from her brother! Further,  according to the 1880 census, she is
(4) the daughter of parents born in Tennessee and Kentucky, respectively!

No, this doesn't prove she's our Caroline, but I am personally convinced this is she. If so, then we know her middle initial and the names and dates of birth of three of her children.

Edgar's age leaves a large gap between himself and his closest sibling, suggesting there may have been multiple deaths/miscarriages. That Edgar is not found in 1900 or later suggests that he, too, may have succumbed.

Aha! Caroline reports here that she only had three kids, all of whom are still alive. This may mean that Edgar H. was not their child at all; however, it could also mean that she does not care to report/admit/talk about the deaths of other children. An Edgar, age 1, was present in the home in 1880, whom they reported to be their son.

This is a single man. In May 2008, I traveled to east Kansas and found the graves of John H. and C. C. Gwin Dunn at Paola. Located directly behind these graves are the graves of a family by the name of Alvin and Maude Joyce! Could Maude be the youngest daughter of the Dunns and this Andrew the younger brother of Alvin?

I'm convinced that this is the former Maude Dunn, daughter of John and Caroline.
