[John M. Gwin Note--9 Sep 2022:  I started this page long ago when I got an email from a Mary Jo Moore inquiring if I knew anything of the above couple who "may have been married in Sevier Co., TN" but all of whose "children were definitely born there."  I imagine she wrote me because she'd somehow heard that my own Gwins were from Sevier Co., TN, even though our last names were spelled differently.  Over the years, this page has served to remind me that there were indeed other Guinns (and perhaps other spellings) around my own ancestors in the same location and to ask the question again whether or not our families were related to each other.   So today I finally began to continue my own research.  And while I have not yet found any indication that our families are related, at least I feel I've taken a step in that direction.  I tried to contact Mary Jo Moore again after all these years and see what success she's had, if any, but I was unsuccessful, as evidently she has passed on.]

 See our developing theory on the "As-of-yet Unrelated" Gwins.

The reformatting of the name font and census data for this page has been completed. --John M. Gwin, Aug 2011

Some Valuable Correspondence

I am looking for info on John B. Guinn and Sarah Varnell. They may have married in Sevier County, TN, as their children were born there. The children include:

Mary Ann Guinn, b. 1813;

Charles Tellis Guinn, b. 4 Jul 1820-21;

John (Jessie) Pierce Guinn, b. 24 Dec 1825.

I would like any info on this family. I have nothing on the parents of either John B. or Sarah.

Mary Jo emailed me many years ago regarding her family--John B. Guinn and Sarah Varnell and their children--who once lived in Sevier Co., TN. She wanted to know if my Gwin family, also from Sevier Co., was related. Yesterday I rediscovered her email and attempted to contact her, only to learn I was a few months too late. Please accept my belated condolences and request to learn if she ever was able to discover more about the Guinns.  --John M. Gwin

GUINN, VARNELL
John B. Guinn married Sarah Varnell on Nov. 25, 1807. They had six children: Matilda, Sarah, Covington, Mary Ann b. 1813, Charles Tellis b. July 4, 1821, and John (Jesse) Pierce b. Dec. 24, 1825. All of the children were born in Sevier Co., TN as far as I know.  I believe John's father to be either Isham Guinn or Charles Guinn. They were both in the area during the early 1800's.  Any help would be very much appreciated.
